Businesses that have high energy usage during the day benefit the most from solar PV installation as they are using the electricity as it is being generated from their solar panels and this significantly reduces the amount being used from the grid.

For example a 50kW system could be generating up to 50 units of electricity per hour under the right conditions which would be worth €22.50 of electricity per hour (at a unit price of €0.45 per unit). When you look at the amount it generates per hour/day/week/year it can have a huge impact on a businesses electricity costs.

On average this 50kW system would generate around 48,000 kWh (units) or €21,600 worth of electricity at €0.45 unit price. As a very rough guide this size of system would cost in the region of €60,000 so the return on investment can be quite significant considering these systems have a lifespan of 30+ years.

Correct system sizing is the most important aspect of solar PV installation for businesses. If a system is too small you won't generate enough electricity to make a noticeable difference to your bills but if a system is too large you may end up sending too much back to the grid and not get as much value per unit.
